Thalmic Labs

Kitchener, Ontario

Thalmic Labs was created only a few short years ago by 3 students from University of Waterloo. Now a Forbes recognized top startup our task was to create a 24,000 sq ft work place on 2 floors. Located in as former button factory the building envelope afforded a solid base of history, texture, natural light and aged materials.

Not divided into teams - the idea was to mix work groups and encourage collaboration. Steelcase Bivi was utilized for its accessories and flexibility. Small and large meeting rooms are used as workrooms with writable walls and integrated technology. A 4000 sq ft lab is surrounded by all glass walls - a hub of prototyping and visualization

Meals are catered and centre around a 27’ granite island and small commercial warming kitchen. A 30’ writable glass wall spans the central island - accessible and heavily used on both sides.

A 20’ tv wall and foldable stage allow for all hands in the front town hall. Christie digital panels in reception stream the thalmic story and showcase the MYO armband
